ONE OF THE LARGEST MACAW AVIARIES IN EUROPE
The “Green Zoo Wuppertal 2020” stands for a new concept in the design of zoological gardens. One of the most important basic principles here is animal welfare and an ecologically sustainable design of the facilities. The facilities should reproduce the natural habitat of the respective animal species as closely as possible. Species protection also plays an important role. Another cornerstone of this concept is that a visit to the zoo should be an outstanding experience. Based on these basic principles, ARALANDIA was created – an aviary for a variety of macaw species.
FREELY ACCESSIBLE FACILITY: A SPECIAL EXPERIENCE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
ARALANDIA is an aviary with an area of around 1,100 square meters. The height is up to 10 meters. In this way, the macaw aviary offers the birds plenty of space to fly freely. Trees, bushes, streams and ponds are also part of the landscape. In this way, the animals find numerous nesting opportunities. The aviary is modeled on a semi-arid savannah landscape – the natural habitat of the birds. There is a great diversity of species in this enclosure. It is freely accessible so that there is intensive contact with the various animals. Visitors can walk the paths at their own pace and linger in the interesting places and observe the natural behavior of the birds.
IMPRESSIVE CONSTRUCTION WITH X-TEND FROM CARL STAHL ARCHITEKTUR
The macaw aviary consists of a huge arch construction. The spaces between the individual beams are spanned by an X-TEND mesh from Carl Stahl Architektur. This is a fine mesh of stainless steel cables with a thickness of only 1.5 to 2.5 mm. Therefore it can hardly be seen, which creates a particularly open impression. Nevertheless, it ensures a reliable delimitation.
